Our Story

Well, we didn't start out as a fabric shop, that's for sure. PPQ was a very small store selling folk art and antique quilts. We've always been in the same building tho, an old hardware store in a great little town, Summerville. (actually Summerville has grown, but it's charm is that it still feels small.) Anyway, next I guess the shop expanded into an adjoining space and started selling primitives - what my Dad called "junk" but actually is furniture with character (or attitude)!
About this time the local fabric store had closed. A customer said "you should open a fabric shop!" Altho I had always quilted (since I was 20) I had no desire to open such a shop. The truth is, fractions were scary. I mean, the thought of selling 1/2 yard of fabric at 6.95 a yard perhaps give a discount, then adding 5% tax.... well, that was too much to deal with. However, lack of money and no experience wasn't scary at all! Minor details.

Today we have 5,000 sq feet of space - still in the same building, another store in Charleston, lots of fabric and all the "stuff" that goes with fabric - notions, books, patterns & we still sell folk art (almost all handmade locally) primitives and quilts... old & new. There are 23 of us that do fractions daily (closed Sundays) plus one retired marine drill instructor that has been quilting for 12 years and is our Janome repairman, Mr. Ed! We do have signs posted in both store that say "we can't be responsible for our math after 3pm."

We've come a long way since 1990 and feel blessed indeed for what the Lord has done! Amen and come visit!

PPQ was chosen by Better Homes & Gardens magazine Quilt Sampler as one of the top ten quilt shops in North America for the year 2000.
